Join Pedro Jimenez of legendary Guadalajara Tasting Room Mezonte, Salvador Rosales of Tequila Cascahuín, Miguel Ángel Partida of Chacolo, and Clayton Szczech of Experience Agave and author of the recently published “A Field Guide to Tequila” as they discuss what is the current situation on the ground in the industry hotbed of Jalisco.
The shortcomings of Mexico’s Denominations of Origins have arguably been talked to death. But perhaps that are other useful ways to talk about paths toward cultural protection, sustainable development, and environmentally friendly production practices in agave spirits.
This talk will explore various strategies in pursuit of these goals from throughout the world. Non-DO models of Geographical Indications, labeling regimes, and direct producer-consumer relationships will be among the topics.
Home to the Denominations of Origin Tequila and Raicilla, a host of other regional agave spirits, a huge agricultural industry and some of the oldest archaeological evidence of agave spirits production, Jalisco is one of the most fascinating locations that produce agave spirits. These two gentlemen have a wealth of years and experience between them and will be joining the Festival to give their read on what the current situation is as well as what lies on the horizon. Join us in the Maynards Drawing room for this free discussion that is sure to be enlightening, engaging, and maybe just a bit controversial. (Insert wink emoji here)
